WHEN AND WHY TO REBUILD A SPRING MOTOR:

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it", does not apply here! We, in the age of electric motors, easily forget the significant wear that occurs naturally and regularly during the operation of a mechanical device.

Dust is lethal! After years of idleness, all mechanical record-player motor collect very harmful amounts of airborne particles, sand and grit. Gears that should have lasted indefinitely with infrequent use, may only last a few years before serious damage sets in.

WHAT GETS DONE?

Old oil and grease become hard or gummy, and hold grit. These old deposits are cleaned away in a process that includes a degreasing bath, an ultrasonic cleaning, and an ultrasonic rinse. Cleaned parts are inspected for damage, polished, lacquered, (for rust and prevention), properly installed, and tested. Particular attention is paid to the condition of the main spring, gears, bearings, bushings, and shafts. Reproducer rebuild included.

How Much Does This Cost?

Most motors cost $300 to $500 to overhaul and rebuild. Most Edison Cylinder Players, when sent with the top works, cost approximately $385. (This includes work on the reproducer, lead screw, half nut and carriage assembly.)

Don't Forget To Have Your Reproducer Rebuilt.

By this time, we have far exceeded the life expectancy of the gasket material used in reproducing heads when they were built. This hardened gasket material, in addition to the settling-in of the needle bar, results in far less-than-maximum sound reproduction. Add to these reasons, the likelihood that this delicate part may have been damaged, you probably are not be getting the best performance from your vintage Talking Machine. How To Pack and Ship:

Pack securely in a thickly-walled carton or double box. Well-wrinkled newspaper works best as buffer. Turntable, crank, cabinet, and lid are not necessary. Wrap reproducers separately. Secure any loose or movable parts. Include your name, address and phone number, as well as ours, inside the carton.    Insure parcels. (Most motors for $200 - $800, reproducers for $100 - $400.)
